I am a medical student at a US University. After going through all the grueling work and stress of getting in and completing the first two years I now find on the wards that the physicians commonly make racial slurs, deprecating comments to women, harsh and humiliating insults to those who make mistakes...etc... not all the doctors do but enough where one girl left the medical school in tears after doing very well in the first two years as a result of the non-stop abuse on a daily basis. What's more, no medical students want to say anything out loud for fear of being singled out. I am a appalled by what is going on and it is affecting my ability to do anything but try to survive in this hostile environment.

What kind of protection legal or otherwise do we young medical students have against these powerful, often arrogant, physicians?
