The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Foundation invites applications for the position of part-time student director for the Educational Development for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (EDCAM) Project. The EDCAM initiative is a five-year grant project funded by the NIH-National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) focused on bringing educational and leadership opportunities to medical students interested in the field of CAM/Integrative Medicine.

The student director will play an integral role in project management and development of the EDCAM initiative. EDCAM works in progress include a pilot test of comprehensive CAM curricula at six medical schools, a CAM leadership training program, and expansion of CAM resources and web-based development tools. The student director will work off-site and report to the EDCAM grant team in assisting with the above projects.


Specific responsibilities include:

Planning and coordination of the week-long CAM leadership training program (LTP) for Summer 2004.
Maintenance of AMSA's EDCAM website.
Engaging students at pilot schools to encourage EDCAM participation, local project planning, and HuMed membership.
Working as an EDCAM liaison to the HuMed Action Committee.
Assisting in EDCAM curricula development and implementation.
Dissemination of EDCAM materials at AMSA conferences, listserves, and retreats.
Attendance at the LTP, 2 meetings at AMSA headquarters, AMSA convention, and serving on the EDCAM advisory panel.
Successful applicants will be enrolled as an MD/DO medical student and will have leadership experience in the field of CAM. Active AMSA and HuMed members are preferred. The student director position will start July 1, 2003 and will end July 1, 2004. Salary is $2500 for the year, plus travel expenses.
