Primary Care Physicians:
Leaders for the Community, Leaders for the Nation

2003 Primary Care Leadership Training Program
Hosted by the George Washington University
August 4-8, 2003

Application Deadline: June 1, 2003

The Leadership Training Program (LTP) is a five-day programming workshop, designed to teach leadership skills within the context of primary care. This year's LTP will take place in Washington, DC the heart of policy and diversity. During the program, participants will go beyond meeting leaders in the community, to becoming community health leaders themselves

The program will allow participants to:

Discuss and interact with speakers on issues of primary care, community leadership, cultural competency, and other current issues in health care
Visit national health care agencies and meet physician leaders whose work influences health care for the entire nation
Gain and expand their current understanding of the mission and role of primary care within the United States health care delivery system
Learn to assess the needs of a community and work within that community to develop a health education project
Explore the vast entertainment sites that Washington, DC has to offer, from classic landmarks to essential must sees at the Smithsonian Museums, to one of the most liveliest nightlife scenes in the nation
The goals of the program are to:

Develop leadership skills
Increase overall awareness on issues affecting health care
Instill health policy and advocating skill so that participants may enact necessary reforms
Expose participants to a variety of resources that can help open the door of opportunity and provide awareness about the wide range of career opportunities in primary care.
AMSA is seeking twenty students who are committed to primary care. If you want to participate, fill out the application and speak with your Dean of Students about the LTP.

Lodging for the LTP will take place in the George Washington University double-roomed dormitories. Students will be paired with a same sex participant at a cost of $18/day.

We ask that your school provide the cost of transportation and lodging for the week, to demonstrate its commitment to medical student leadership and primary care.

looks interesting but, would you ask for the cost of the transport? That's even more important in this times.

I will definately ask the cost of transport, but I do believe that AMSA asks for the students to ask their university. However, I'll let y'all know if there is going to be a scholarship or something available to help defray the costs of attending.
