Contribute to The New Physician
AMSA's award-winning magazine, The New Physician, provides comprehensive coverage of issues affecting medical education and health-care. It is put together by a professional staff at AMSA's national office, though there are many ways you can contribute, including:
Perspectives
Write an editorial. These 1,000-word opinion pieces tackle some of the most pressing issues facing medical education and health care - such as physician-assisted suicide, or even some of the lighter issues, like the challenge of finding time during training to have a life.
On the Wards
Share touching, enlightening, humorous or enraging accounts of your clinical experiences.
Letter from Afield
Write about medical training experiences you've had beyond the walls of academic medical centers - overseas electives, etc.
Reviews
Become a book or software reviewer. Send an email to tnp@www.amsa.org and describe which subject areas interest you (i.e. history, ethics, family practice, women in medicine, biographies, medical education, how to guides). Include your name, address, phone number and detail whether you are a premedical or medical student, resident, AMSA Alumnus, or practicing physician.

Strike a Pose and Potentially Win a PDA!
Medical students and residents--The New Physician seeks submissions for a photo essay depicting future physicians in their homes. We want images of you in your space--the place in which you feel most at home. It could be a front porch, the kitchen, your rooftop garden, or that room with the mattress on the floor. Think of this assignment as a visual autobiography. Once you've selected an area of your home, strike a pose and say, "Cheese." Write a brief essay about yourself (no more than 500 words) and why you chose this particular space. Tell us what's going on in your life, at this particular moment as you pursue your goal of becoming a physician. By sending a submission to us, not only will you have the chance to be published in TNP, but you may also win a PDA! One PDA winner will be selected at random from all qualifying entries received. Send the picture and essay to: The New Physician, attn: Home Sweet Home, 1902 Association Dr., Reston, VA 20191. If you want your submission returned, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Submissions must be postmarked by May 30, 2003. Questions? E-mail tnp@www.amsa.org.
Cartoons
Fancy yourself a cartoonist? If so, TNP wants to see your work. We're soliciting cartoons from medical students and residents to be published in an upcoming special feature. Send quality copies (or originals) of your cartoons to: The New Physician, attn: Comic Relief, 1902 Association Dr., Reston, VA 20191. Include a cover letter detailing why you draw cartoons, or what's special about your submissions, and a brief bio about yourself. Be sure to include your contact information (address, phone number, e-mail), along with the name of your school/residency and year of training. If you want your submissions returned, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (relative to the weight and size of your submissions). You can send your cartoons to us digitally, if the resolution of the files are at least 300 dpi. E-mail: tnp@www.amsa.org. All submissions must be postmarked by April 11, 2003.

Editorial Advisory Board
Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) members critique each magazine issue, respond to regular surveys and serve as resources for The New Physician's (TNP) editorial calendar. The student editor is responsible for the same duties as EAB members, plus specific projects assigned by TNP's editor. EAB members are selected each November to serve one-year terms (January through December). The EAB has already been selected for 2003. We will be accepting applications for 2004 in the fall of 2003.
