Is anyone over 30 and just starting the pre med courses? I just want to know if I'm not the only one doing this at this age my family thinks I'm crazy and that is too late for starting MEd school. SOme times I really don't know. I just wake up every morning thinking about becoming a Doctor.

Hi VM:
I am in the same boat, but 10 years older than you are. And, you are right, I am not being taken too seriously. I would visit http://www.oldpremeds.org - it's a great site and full of people like us who have made the decision to fulfill our destiny! Are you enrolled in a post-bacc program or are you taking classes on your own?

You're not the only "crazy" one!! I am 35 y/o and will start my pre med classes next fall. I am married, a father of two boys, and finishing up my BS in Nursing this year. I am a firm believer that you are never too old to persue your dreams (although some days I FEEL too old to persue mine ). A friend once said to me, before I started nursing school and was hesitant because I felt that I was too old, "Where will you be in 4 years if you don't go to school?.....You'll be 4 years older, AND have no degree!!" Go for your dreams and don't look back! Best of luck in your journey!!

I agree, you are never too old to pursue your dreams. I will be 30 in January and in my sophomore year of pre-med courses. Eight years of nursing, marriage and two children have well prepared me for the journey I am taking. Good luck to you. Remember to keep your eye on the prize!!!!!

Thank God you guys & gals are here saying what you are saying. I too am in the 30+ (be 31 in April) and am hoping to be a doctor. I have wanted to do this my whole life. I lost my brother 2 weeks before graduating high school and floated like a ghost through my first year at college, left college after 1 year when my mom got sick, and now after all this time, I have to start over. I know it will be hard, but I have never wanted anything more. I think if you are commited and are willing to do what it takes, age really means nothing.

I am 32 and will be starting my premed classes in the spring. Bio 1 (for the seconde time, the first time I aced it but it was 7 years ago) Chem 1 and Trig. I still need to find 1 more class. Anyway you all are not alone and I think we have a bit of an edge due to our age. Good luck everyone.

I am so glad to hear that you decided to go to med school too after nursing school and having a family. Its nice to know that I am not the only one out there wanting this dream so late in the game.

This is my first time here, i was searching for pre med requirements and found this forum and this topic. I'm 32 and thought about becoming a doctor/surgeon, I thought about it a little if it was too late or whatever, but I don't think so, it may not be as full time because of other responsibilities, but eventually we'll all see that day when we finish our last day of residency and become a staff doc. Be positive.
